Designed for drivers who want the smooth, quiet experience of electric driving without giving up the freedom of a petrol engine, the SEALION 5 DM-i can be charged at home and used as an EV for everyday journeys, while the petrol engine gives you the flexibility to travel much further when required. DESIGN – THE HIGHER-SPECIFICATION SEALION 5 The Design model features the larger 18.3kWh BYD Blade Battery, providing up to 86km of WLTP combined pure-electric range. The Super DM-i system produces 156kW of total system power, with the electric motor delivering up to 145kW and 300Nm of torque. The SEALION 5 remains front-wheel drive and accelerates from 0–100km/h in approximately 8.1 seconds. BYD quotes an overall combined WLTP range of up to 1,016km. That means plenty of everyday journeys can potentially be completed using electric power, while the petrol engine gives you the confidence to take longer trips without relying entirely on Ireland's public charging network. In EV operation, the electric motor drives the wheels, while in hybrid operation the system intelligently combines the electric motor and petrol engine depending on what is most efficient for the circumstances. For an Irish driver, that means you can use the 86km electric range for many regular journeys and then simply continue driving using the hybrid system when you need to cover greater distances. The Design also includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), allowing the car's battery to supply up to 3.3kW of power to compatible external equipment.
