Barlo Engineering trading as Clonmel Engineering Works was started by Matt Barlow in 1944 (father of Sean Barlow) .The original premises was in Emmet Street, Clonmel which is where Superquinn Shopping Centre is now located.

The company's first major achievement came in 1948 when we were appointed Main Distributors for David Brown tractors and Claas combine harvesters. This contract meant we were the sole distributors for counties Tipperary, Kilkenny and Waterford for David Brown and Class.

Business kept going from strength to strength during the 1960's and 1970's, and in 1978 , the newly named Barlo Farm Machinery moved it's Clonmel premises to a brand new facility which was opened by Mr Jim Gibbons, the then Minister for Agriculture.

Barlo Farm Machinery served the farming community with great pride from it's 5 branches, namely Clonmel, Kilkenny, Thurles, Tipperary Town and Dungarvan right up to the early 2000's. A new generation of the Barlow family were coming through ,and in 1989 , Barlo Motors was appointed as Main Ford dealer for South Tipperary.  The ' Barlo' name meant a lot to people and it was seen as a great move forward for the area to have Barlo Motors selling Ford cars and commercials. Sadness came in 2002 when Dealer Principal Ray Barlow passed away after a short illness. The company re-grouped and Alan and Ivan Barlow came to the helm and this is still how things are today.

The Barlo motto from the start was ' Treat Your Customer As You Would Like To Be Treated Yourself ' and this has worked well as we still deal with many grandchildren of original customer's back in the 1940's.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Donnacha in Bolands Waterford. I shopped around a lot before deciding to go with them. Ultimately I chose them because Donnacha was able to provide the exact car I wanted and at the same time I felt he really delivered excellent value for my trade in. When I collected the car, he was incredibly knowledgeable about all the technology which I was totally unfamiliar with. He was very patient in teaching me all I needed to know to be able to drive away both confident and utterly content! The service was carried out and they contacted me in relation you a few items which the mechanic recommended to have done. All work completed in a little over 3 hour.

We purchased our Hyundai Inster from Fairview Motors after a long wait. The showroom itself is well-stocked with a good range of vehicles, and the staff were friendly and professional. One thing we appreciated was the freedom to explore the cars on our own—there was no pressure or hovering from the sales team, which made the experience more relaxed. That said, the location can be tricky to find if you’re unfamiliar with the area, and parking isn’t ideal since there’s no dedicated lot—you’ll likely need to park on the roadside. Price-wise, we found the sales team to be a bit firm in negotiations, at least in our case.
