The 17-jewel version was primarily intended for the US market to avoid import tariffs on watches with higher jewel counts (like the original 27-jewel version released in Japan in 1966). Day/date display and a mechanical alarm function. The alarm is set via an internal rotating ring and a separate pusher at the 2 o'clock position. Production Era: The 17-jewel models were widely produced from 1969 until the end of production in 1978.The Seiko Bell-Matic 17 jewels is a highly popular and common vintage automatic alarm watch produced from the late 1960s through the 1970s. It features the reliable Caliber 4006A movement and was the only mechanical alarm watch Seiko ever manufactured.
