1965 Set of 3 MCM MOD R. Foster & Son Chairs

Rare 1965 Set of 3 MCM MOD R. Foster & Son Chairs Rare set of 3 Mid-Century Modern R. Foster & Son chairs, originally made for UK MOD / government contract use. All three chairs still retain their original government labels underneath. The labels show R. Foster & Son, NSN / NATO Stock Number 7105-99-120-3757, contract/code 01-22-205, British Broad Arrow government property mark and a date stamp reading 12 November 1965. There are also additional stamped markings directly on the wooden frame, including a Broad Arrow style government mark. The chairs are very heavy, solid and well-built, with original black vinyl seats and backrests and warm teak-toned hardwood frames. The wood appears to be a heavy African teak / iroko type hardwood, with rich grain and colour. Clean MCM design with simple lines, strong proportions and floating-style backrests. Suitable as dining chairs, office chairs, studio chairs, café chairs, waiting-room chairs or statement seating. Condition is very good overall. Two chairs are in excellent condition. One chair has two small nicks/cuts in the black vinyl on the front edge of the seat, shown clearly in the photos. Frames are strong, sturdy and very heavy. Normal light signs of age and use. A rare labelled surviving set, much stronger than the usual unmarked MCM chairs found online. Collection from Ballincollig.
