Description
A complete, stunning, highly usable eighteen year old computer. One for the retro and vintage computing folks. Two more years and it'll be officially vintage! This gorgeous, complete HP Pavilion a6210.uk dual-core Athlon 4000+ system comes with original tower case, flat-screen monitor, wired PS/2 laser mouse and wired PS/2 keyboard. Uniquely, this system also comes with the HP Pocket Media Drive, which slots into a dedicated drive bay using USB-B. The 120GB Pocket Media Drive can be ejected and safely transported in its zippered case and comes with a USB-A cable. Highly practical! The AMD Athlon CPU is part of the Sempron family: Version: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ Voltage: 1.3 V External Clock: 201 MHz Max Speed: 3000 MHz The video card is an ATI Radeon HD 2350 PRO with DVI out and 256MB of DDR2 memory: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-hd-2350-pro.c221 The HP-branded VGA monitor has a native resolution of 1440x900 and built-in stereo speakers. It plugs into the stereo output. The system has four 1GB sticks of RAM; the motherboard supports up to 16GB. Maximum Memory Module Size: 4096 MB Maximum Total Memory Size: 16384 MB Supported Speeds: 70 ns 60 ns 50 ns Supported Memory Types: Standard DIMM Memory Module Voltage: 2.9 V Associated Memory Slots: 4 The machine has a total of 883GB of storage, across four disks: * A 200GB 7200RPM Samsung EIDE hard disk drive * A 500GB SATA hard disk drive (the mobo supports SATA2) * The 120GB Pocket Media Drive * A 128GB Compact Flash card The disks are all problem-free. There's no on-board Wireless networking; I've been using the onboard 10/100 wired interface, which is rock-solid. The motherboard is a based on the Nvidia nForce 430/GeForce 6150SE chipset: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/ecs-mcp61pm-hm The operating system is a fresh install of HP OEM Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit (from archive.org), with up-to-date drivers and service packs. (The latter from the very excellent community-supported "Legacy Update".) All hardware works correctly, including audio. The OS activated automatically; no chicanery required on my part. The OS is very responsive! I've added a compatible version of Firefox for modern cipher support, a compatible version of Adobe Reader and Simon Tatham's PuTTY for easy transfer of files and remote logins via SSH. The BIOS is patched with the latest firmware and I've replaced the BIOS coin-cell battery. The capacitors on the board all look good, and the machine has been rock-solid stable during all my testing, including overnight runs transferring gigabytes of files and installing hundreds of updates. I've yet to provide more glamour shots of the machine, but the piano-black finish looks even better in real life than in the existing snaps. There is a very light amount of cosmetic wear and tear - some scuffs and so on - but the machine has otherwise been well cared for. It's a brilliant basis as a project for someone to take on; perhaps upgrading the RAM to 16GB and installing 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate, also available from archive.org. Or you may wish to replace the spinning rust with solid-state storage. Finally, the machine comes with all the disk images, driver software and so on that I used when reinstalling from fresh, so you can blitz everything if you like and rebuild to the same state. Also, all power cables, data cables, suitable connectors and so on. Any questions, let me know. I'm open to offers.
