Description

There are old vans… there are restored vans… and then there’s this. A 1976 Ford Mk1 Transit presented in stunning Monaco Red that genuinely looks and feels like it rolled out of a Ford showroom sometime late on a Friday afternoon in 1976. I don’t say this lightly – this is the most impressive period van I have ever seen or driven. The sort of thing that makes modern “restorations” look like someone just tried to make look shiny. Powered by the 1.7 litre V4 engine, it starts instantly, settles into an idle that is sewing-machine quiet and pulls beautifully through the 4-speed gearbox. Period road tests praised these early Transits for their “car-like driving manners” and “unexpectedly lively performance” — this example reminds you exactly why. It’s torquey, smooth, and astonishingly tight. Steering has little to no play whatsoever. It genuinely feels brand new. No exaggeration. None. The interior is exceptional. The front two-tone seats are exceptional. The rubber flooring is exceptional. Everything about it is exceptional. Even the smell — that unmistakable period Ford aroma — is still there. All glass is unmarked and retains the original Ford etching. Window rubbers feel like new. It’s honestly hard to comprehend how well preserved this van is. This is a one-owner-from-new example with 95% original paint and only 24,400km on the clock (roughly 15,000 miles). That kind of originality simply doesn’t exist anymore. Certainly not in this condition. Having just received a major service, she is ready for the next period of its life in whatever shape that takes. Back in the day, the Mk1 Transit was described as “The backbone of Britain” — builders, electricians, delivery drivers, and small businesses all relied on them. This one clearly had a much easier life, because it’s survived in a condition that borders on the unbelievable. It’s worthy of any serious collection, museum display, or even a Ford showroom. Perhaps one of the very best examples anywhere. It’s just sensational. You won’t find better. Currently registered in the Netherlands, the Transit will be either registered on ZV plates or 76 (county plate) for the next lucky owner.

Simon is an absolute gent, I was stuck for a way to get out to the dealership and he picked me up from Dublin City centre (now that was him being sound, don’t expect him to do that for you too!) but the whole way out I got to learn alot about life and business from him! A very genuine man, absolutely does not fit the stereotype of a sleazy salesman trying to rip you off! He’s genuinely prioritising a great customer experience for you over squeezing any bit of extra cash out of you! They’ve a serious collection of motors on offer there too! I highly highly recommend 🫡

I recently bought a Jaguar XJS from Simon at Deane Motors and had a very good experience throughout. Simon was great to deal with, responsive and clear in his communication. The car was exactly as described and presented to a high standard, and everything was delivered as promised and on time. The process was straightforward from first enquiry to handover. If you’re looking for a classic car and want a professional, no-hassle experience, I would highly recommend Deane Motors.

I’ve bought already 3 cars from Simon and Simon - such a stunning selection of cars for nearly any budget, and more importantly amazing after sale customer care. All 3 cars were in great condition with low mileage, ready to go to any car show. The latest one - Mercedes w201 has only 78k km (less than 50k miles!) in its 34 years, what a find by Simon and team! I had a small mechanical issue with one of the cars after the purchase - we arranged a repair and I was immediately provided with a replacement car (a wonderful experience on its own - a powerful beast with 250 bhp!). Was receiving updates on the repair and timing along the way in text messages, which was really nice. Always feeling welcomed and respected even buying comparatively cheaper cars. I could really feel their love to cars, knowledge and professionalism. I will for sure be back again and trade in for the next car!
