Description

Here is my 1302 S for sale in factory colour L20D, clementine orange. The roof, engine bonnet and rear bottom panel still have their factory paint. Italian car from new. In my ownership since 2016. The first family owners kept the car until 1999, after which it was owned by Mark in the UK, who sold it to Dale, who lived nearby. I bought the car from Dale in 2016. Bettina (the name given to her by the first owners) is not a concours example, nor is she a garage queen. She is a bit of a project, just like almost any other car of this age. Importantly, the car has always been serviced by its current owner. A new battery was installed recently. This spring, I replaced the flywheel seal and the inlet manifold. The engine gets fresh oil very regularly, which is quite uncommon with the vast majority of these cars. It is a very sweet motor, running like an Italian clock — not too fast, not too slow, but smooth and efficient, without vibrations, and feeling completely at home in hot weather. There is very low mileage on the car. For comparison, my 15-year-young bicycle has covered more distance than the Volkswagen (or should I say, its frame). The car has some nice quirks, features and factory extras, such as the sunroof, opening hinged rear quarter windows, door pockets in both doors, two ashtrays at the back, one on each side, and the rear-seat armrest — something I have never seen before in a VW Type 1. It is the S model, with the 1600 AD engine, front disc brakes and the Luxury package. Just have a look at the factory specification sheet. The front indicator lights, with a clear front section and an amber side window, are original and were specific to the Italian market at the time. It will be sad to let the car go, but it is not being used often enough in the last few years.
