Barlo Engineering trading as Clonmel Engineering Works was started by Matt Barlow in 1944 (father of Sean Barlow). The original premises was in Emmet Street, Clonmel which is where Superquinn Shopping Centre is now located.



The company's first major achievement came in 1948 when we were appointed Main Distributors for David Brown tractors and Claas combine harvesters. This contract meant we were the sole distributors for counties Tipperary, Kilkenny and Waterford for David Brown and Class.



Business kept going from strength to strength during the 1960's and 1970's, and in 1978, the newly named Barlo Farm Machinery moved it's Clonmel premises to a brand new facility which was opened by Mr Jim Gibbons, the then Minister for Agriculture.



Barlo Farm Machinery served the farming community with great pride from it's 5 branches, namely Clonmel, Kilkenny, Thurles, Tipperary Town and Dungarvan right up to the early 2000's. A new generation of the Barlow family were coming through, and in 1989, Barlo Motors was appointed as Main Ford dealer for South Tipperary. The 'Barlo' name meant a lot to people and it was seen as a great move forward for the area to have Barlo Motors selling Ford cars and commercials. Sadness came in 2002 when Dealer Principal Ray Barlow passed away after a short illness. The company re-grouped and Alan and Ivan Barlow came to the helm and this is still how things are today.



The Barlo motto from the start was ' Treat Your Customer As You Would Like To Be Treated Yourself 'and this has worked well as we still deal with many grandchildren of original customer's back in the 1940's.

I recently bought a Ford Capri from Barlo Motors in Clonmel. I have to say that the whole process from my initial inquiry to actually driving out the gate in my new car was so stressless and positive. Thanks to Fergal for his very prompt communication and for giving me a very fair price for my trade in. After sales service on buying a second hand car are not good went in with a complete I was told  with a macanic looking at my problem that  I would get a call back to book it in  A week and a half later nothing back so I phoned them I was told I was forgotten about with the macanic that took all of my details and took a photo of his phone of my number plate so that he or the service department would get back to me I was still waiting so phoned again a lovely lady took my details and got back to me the next day still awaiting my issue to be sorted?

Geraldo is an amazing person to deal with. He is a top notch man. We ordered our Ford Explorer Select extended range model in Red Color in November but God had other plans. Our car is still in manufacturing while writing this, Geraldo did his best effort to get us same model from another ford dealership but unfortunately it was not on par with our expectations and we denied it and they accepted that and searched their inventory to find us an arctic blue select extended model with Driver assistance package and offered us extra discount. This is what I call exceptional customer service. I admire effort of all the people to make us happy. They pushed extra mile to meet our expectations. Huge shoutout to Geraldo, Pat and Paul to keep their excellent customer service. Note to future customers who want to save money and get bang for their buck. Go for select extrnded range and stretch your purse to get driver assistance package as you will get power, hands free tailgate and parking led logo on floor which is very cool in my opinion plus self driving and 360 degree camera, self parking assist. Bang for buck.

Last year, myself and several colleagues purchased more than 10 Ford Custom Tourneo vehicles from this dealership, so we expected fair pricing, transparency, and professional customer care.
My vehicle was kept from 8am until 5pm, yet the reported issue was not resolved. This is now the third time I have booked the car in for noise coming from the front and rear, and it still has not been properly diagnosed or fixed.
The middle sliding door started making noise after only six months of use. During service, they applied grease, but the problem remains. The door still feels loose and like a much older vehicle — completely unacceptable for a 7-month-old car.
Another serious concern is that my taxi roof sign stopped working. I later noticed a wire hanging loose near the brake pedal area, which is extremely worrying from a safety perspective. This should never happen after a professional service.
The most concerning issue is overcharging. We have an agreed service rate of €250. However, I was charged €420.36, including €228.40 for labour. A colleague recently received the same service, with the same parts used as in my service, yet was correctly charged the agreed €250 rate. This clearly shows inconsistent pricing.
When I raised this with the service manager, Dave, instead of reviewing the invoice properly, he instructed staff not to apply any discount and insisted I pay the full amount. He then walked away while I was still speaking. This behaviour was highly unprofessional and unacceptable.
I am also uploading a video where you can clearly hear the noise from this 7-month-old vehicle.

Very disappointing service. Additional work was carried out without clear prior approval, and the final price was much higher than expected. Communication was poor, and when clarification was requested, the response was unprofessional.

This is a matter of transparency. I respectfully request the owner to address these issues, improve the service, and ensure staff behave professionally in the future. Customer service seriously needs improvement.

Have been there more than a couple of times for my focus , they were extremely helpful. All the staff are very friendly.

Fine garage lovely showroom curtious staff. But I was very disappointed with the trade in allowance I was being allowed on a 2019 fiesta they just didn't want my car. It would have been nice to be told they were overstocked with fiestas and not interested rather than giving such a poor trade in allowance.

It is with genuine regret that I write this negative review, as I previously had positive experiences with this company. Unfortunately, this time was different. I had two cars serviced, and both had to be returned. While mistakes can happen, the real issue was the lack of engagement after I reported the problem. Despite my efforts, I received no meaningful follow-up, and ultimately, I will have to take the car elsewhere to resolve the issue—at considerable expense. Sadly, all future business dealings with this company will cease. I am giving 1 star as a sign of respect for the competence they once demonstrated previously.
