I had another very pleasant experience buying my new car in Tony Burke Motors this month. With the help of the excellent Mike McMahon, I chose a car that is perfect for my needs.

My car was bought and serviced with this Toyota dealership location for over 15 years, however my last visit was unacceptable. I specifically requested preventative cleaning of a part that has caused recurring breakdowns and to replace the starter motor that grinded on start-up when I brought the car in for its annual service; the starter replacement was scheduled a month in advance. It emerged they ignored my request to clean the part causing the breakdown because they “didn’t feel it was necessary.” I decide for my car when something is necessary for my car. Sure enough, the car broke down for the exact reason I warned them about. When the car was brought in after the breakdown I asked for urgent assistance and was told they would give me a call the same day. They didn’t. In fact I called and emailed for 2 days requesting an update, they never responded. I had to take time off work for a face to face conversation. When confronted, they didn’t care I was left without a car for over 2 days due to their negligence and told me to come back in 1 hour to pick up the car. When I came back I was presented with an invoice for hours of labour and shockingly the replacement of the starter motor that was scheduled in a months time.
When I asked to speak to the service manager, the request was denied as they were unavailable. I requested a call back from the manager. Unexpectedly, the service advisor who caused the issue called me back instead, declaring he thought he could explain why how I felt was wrong. I had to insist on speaking to the manager, who finally called the next day — only to suggest that the cleaning (previously performed that resolved the problem was pointless) and since I had scheduled the starter motor replacement for a month in advance it was fine for them to replace it early without ratification. I decided to speak with Toyota Ireland about my experience with Tony Burke Motors and they stated by email they are extremely disappointed with the level of service I was offered with a car of its age, serviced in their network all this time and they didn’t want to compound my obvious disappointment by making excuses.
In the end, I was left without a car for 2 days; ignored instructions, preventable breakdown, no communication, dismissive staff, unauthorised repairs, and holding my car hostage — completely unprofessional and unethical. It is disheartening that after all these years this is how Tony Burke Motors decided to end the relationship.

Visited Tony Burke’s recently to upgrade a relatively new car with low km, after a chat with Shaun the salesman he viewed the car I was trading in. After 30 seconds and only driving it 1 metre he concluded that the gearbox needed replacement, then proceeded to offer me €3000 for the car.

I was shocked and insulted. A quick drive to another Toyota dealership in a neighbouring county I explained my dealings to the salesman, he drove the car for 10 mins and called me back several hours later with a price three times more than Shaun’s !

Thankfully I got a second opinion!
